Chew House
Extension/Renovation_Rawang_Completed 2020.
This project revitalises an old terrace house in Rawang. The renovation preserves the generous ceiling heights of the original dwelling, while extending and reconfiguring the interior to create a light-filled and adaptable family home.
Responding to the scale and character of the existing terrace, the design accommodates both parents and adult children, balancing shared living with individual privacy. The house is organised across three levels to maximise programme while maintaining a compact footprint, allowing valuable outdoor space to contribute to the quality of the interiors.
Bedrooms and bathrooms are located within the original terrace structure, where traditional proportions are selectively retained and reinterpreted through a contemporary material palette. A central double-height light court anchors the home, drawing daylight into the living areas and establishing a visual connection to the outdoors.
Above, an attic-like upper level houses an additional bedroom suite. Its form responds sensitively to neighbouring properties, ensuring the new intervention remains respectful to its context.
